What you will be asked
Six questions. Answering them is most of the work of getting a real price rather than a range, and none of them needs a finished design.
Which parts of the work do you want?
Six practices, not one steel package end to end. This decides who reads the enquiry and which of the questions below are asked at all.
Where is the project, and what is it?
Location sets the governing code and, where a drawing has to be sealed, the jurisdiction whose licensure applies. The project type and stage say how finished the answer needs to be.
What is the scope?
A written description works. A model or a drawing set works better, and an incomplete one is still useful — an early design is a normal thing to price against.
Which standard, and roughly what tonnage?
Asked when the answer is a structural design or fabrication one — a governing code and a tonnage band are honest questions there, not for every discipline.
What software is the job in?
Tekla, SDS2, Advance Steel, Revit, Navisworks — or IFC, DWG and PDF if the model is somebody else's. Asked of design, fabrication and BIM enquiries; the standard and the tonnage are not.
When do you need this delivered?
Not when the drawings are due — when the result is needed. The erection sequence is what sets the release order on steel work, and it is the one date that cannot move quietly.

A drawing set alone is enough to start. So is a scope written in a paragraph. A model is better than both, and a partial one is better than waiting until it is finished. Files go straight from your browser to encrypted storage, up to 25 GB each, and an interrupted upload continues from where it stopped rather than starting again.

What happens to what you send
Recorded with the acknowledgement
- Time
- At the moment you accept
- Network address
- Of the connection you accept from
- Browser
- As your browser reports it
- Policy version
- nda-2026-09-v1
Your models, drawings and specifications stay yours. They are used to answer your enquiry and nothing else — not to price another job, not as a portfolio piece, not in marketing. Material is shared with a partner fabricator only where that shop needs it to perform its own scope, and only the part it needs.
A confidentiality acknowledgement is shown before any upload is possible, and the time, network address, browser and policy version are recorded against it. The full policy is at IP and confidentiality. Where you have your own non-disclosure agreement it is normal to work under yours — say so and it can be signed before anything moves.
